08 february, 2016
FORMER COMMUNISTS LEAVE MCP AND JOIN SOCIALISTS Mayors, councilors and ordinary members of the Moldovan Communist Party are massively leaving the political formation and join the Party of Socialists.

At the Monday’s news conference at Infotag, Mayor of the Bileceni commune in Singerei raion [district] Vasile Orlovschi said that it is about 500 former Communists from eight raions in the north of Moldova and from Chisinau.

“We were together with the MCP in the time of its being in power in 2001-2009, we supported the party when it went into opposition. But in 2014 unexplainable things started occurring in the party. Its leader brought the party to splitting and literally its leasing”, he said.

According to Orlovschi, dishonest and unprincipled people got into top positions in the party.

“The MCP does not exist as an organization anymore. We decided to join the only Moldovan party, which is able to unite all the left-wing powers – the PSRM. It is most influential today and is able to achieve major goals for the entire Moldovan population”, he said.

The major goal, from their point of view consists saving the country from Unionists [the adherents to the idea of Unire – Moldova’s unification with Romania], while the state – from oligarchs, the returning of the stolen billion and punishing of the guilty.

Representative of a village party organization from Drochia raion Grigore Bucatari said that the people in raions support the PSRM and actions of its leader Igor Dodon.

“This is the only force that is following the set goals. I announce about joining the Socialist Party”, Bucatari said.

As former MCP members refused to answer journalists’ questions, the news conference lasted 9 minutes.
