SOS AUTISM HOLDS CONCERT ON OCCASION OF WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY Public association SOS Autism invites the public and authorities to take part in a charity concert on the occasion of the world day of disseminating information about autism, as well as in other activities.

Director of the project “Social integration of children and adolescents with autism in Moldova”, implemented with the support of USAID and FHI 360, Alla Pinzari said at the press conference that “this project is valued at 840 million lei. It was launched in May 2015 and we decided to hold a concert on April 2 upon completion of the first phase of the project and the world day of disseminating information about autism”.

Association member Olga Guzun said that “activities will be held from March 20. Charity exhibition in Jolly Alon hotel will be the first; anyone can buy souvenirs made by children with autism”.

“Until April 2, an information campaign will run leaflets will be spread, thematic programs will be organized; the charity concert will be held on April 2 at the National Philharmonic. Charity exhibition will be held also there before the concert. After that everyone will be able to launch blue Chinese lanterns into the sky. Moldovan artists will take part in the concert”, she said.

Director of SOS Autism Aliona Dumitras noted that “In 2014 there were registered as many as 241 patients with autism in Moldova, including 218 children. In Romania – 30 thousand. This difference shows that not everyone in Moldova reports about the disease”.

According to Dumitras, “Few people in Moldova know about this disease and two centers where children with autism can receive the necessary assistance and support”.

“These centers are not public and do not receive assistance from the authorities. Namely because of the paucity of information about autism, due to the inability of educational institutions to teach children with autism along with healthy, people with this disease face problems since small age. We need to work constantly with children with autism and then they will be easier to integrate into society to work in the future”, she said.

Former Head of Chisinau Health Department Luminita Suveica said that she will participate in the events organized by the social association and urged everyone “to join and support the association and children with autism”.
