CONFERENCE ON STALINIST REPRESSIONS TO BE HELD IN CHISINAU “The press covering of Stalinist/Communist repressions and of their influence on the society” is the name of the international scientific-practical conference to be held in the Moldovan capital on March 24. Its organizers are the Association of Sociologists and Demographers, the faculties of journalism and history of Moldova State University, and the ProMemoria Institute.

 

Association Deputy Chairman Andrei Dumbraveanu said at a news conference at Infotag today that the forum will consider the results of joint researches, the opinions of local and foreign experts and of the residents of Solovki Islands (Russia).

 

On Thursday evening, the conference participants will attend the presentation of a documentary film “The Prisoners of Happiness”, shot on the Solovki Islands in 2015. The film depicts the hardships suffered by Soviet repressed citizens on the Islands, converted into a big prison [in the 1920s – early 1950s]

 

Association Chairman Victor Mocanu spoke of the 1Q2016 undertakings – already conducted and those to come yet.

 

“On Thursday, I will present a research called “The consequences of 1940-1953 Stalinist repressions for Moldova residents”. On the same day there will be the presentation of a brochure named “A Theft in the Moldovan Style”, he said.

 

ProMemoria Director Anatol Petrencu said that the conference will be attended by researchers from Moldova, Ukraine, Romania and Russia. The forum program includes the presentation of a research on the restoration of the historic memory about totalitarian communist regime victims.
