MOLDOVAN INDEPENDENCE SUPPORTERS DEMAND CRIMINAL PUNISHING OF UNIONISTS

06 april, 2016
MOLDOVAN INDEPENDENCE SUPPORTERS DEMAND CRIMINAL PUNISHING OF UNIONISTS The Center for Cooperation with Youth, Youth Movement “Voievod” and the youth wing of the Socialist Party “Young Guard” demand the Moldovan law enforcement to criminally prosecute Unionists [the adherents to the idea of Unire – Moldova’s unification with Romania], who have cut out the state emblem from the Moldovan flag and called to unification with Romania.

The Center Chairman Dumitru Roibu said at the Tuesday’s news conference at Infotag that organizing in Chisinau massive unionist actions on March 27, the supporters of Moldovan unification with Romania violated the Moldovan legislation.

“The Constitution clearly states that Moldova is a sovereign, independent, united and indivisible state. While Unionists were chanting anti-state slogans, were calling to unification, there were also calls for ethnic discrimination. Such actions infringe upon the rights of representatives of other nationalities, definitely not contributing to Moldova’s reintegration. Besides, the date of March 27 is not a holiday, it is a memorial day of victims of Romanian occupation”, he said.

According to him, the Sfatul Tarii-2 [Council of the Country. The first council was formed in 1918], created by Unionists, is made of politicians, who have been in Parliament for about 20 years, while some of them are still there, with the aim to prevent Moldova from development.

Civil activists have developed amendments to the legislation, which imply toughening of responsibility for anti-state activity.

Chairman of the Young Guard Victor Poliacov said that organizers of the Sfatul Tarii-2 committed themselves to implement the state power, while according to the law, this is a very grave crime against the people.

“All this is fictitious so far, but it is unknown what may happen in future. Moldova is an independent state with its own Constitution, state emblem, anthem, while Unionists try to profane all this, cutting the emblem out of the Moldovan flag and calling to unification with another state. This is a crime which should be punished. There is a video, where it is recorded who has done this. Law enforcement bodies just have to establish the identity of infringers and attract them to responsibility”, he said.

He hopes that the society and the law enforcement will understand the gravity of Unionists’ violations and will not stand still.

Chairman of the Voievod Youth Movement Nicolae Pascaru said that there are several parties in Moldova, who are making the Unire game for distracting the people’s attention from urgent problems.

“Such events will lead to nothing good, we have to promote national values, culture and history of Moldova”, he said, calling on compatriots to think thoroughly for whom to vote at presidential elections, as the ignorance may lead to new problems in the next four years.
