The Gagauzia Executive Committee will establish 100 additional stipends for students of the Comrat State University, announced Gagauzia Bashkan [governor] Irina Vlah at the Monday’s news conference at Infotag.

 

According to her, the size of monthly stipend accounts for 400 lei and it will be paid as addition to the basic stipend. 75 beneficiaries will be selected on the basis of academic results, while 25 – from socially vulnerable families.

 

“Unfortunately, the number of entrants who choose foreign universities is growing with each coming year. Our students are actively being invited by higher educational institutions of Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Europe. The youth finds itself in the new place, starts business, finds job, creates families and very few come back home. Our economy and social sphere loses young, diligent and ambitious specialists, who could achieve success at home – in Moldova”, Vlah said.

 

She added that one of the country’s most serious problems is the unemployment, but the paradox is that when investors come and consider the opportunity of transferring their enterprises in Moldova, it turns out that there are no people to work here.

 

“It is obvious that the problem of brain drain demands urgent and efficient decisions, we need concrete economic incentives, which would motivate young people to study and work in Moldova. In this connection, the Executive Committee has established 100 additional stipends. In total, bursars will get from 960 to 1120 lei, while owners of social stipends – 710 lei per month”, Vlah said.

 

The innovations will come into force starting from the new academic year. All the Moldovan entrants may equally apply for budget places and stipends in Comrat State University. Al the nonresident students will be provided with places in the university dormitory.

 

“Another problem graduates are facing is employment. Employers almost always demand at least 2-3 years of experience. We are easily employing young specialists in all the departments of the Gagauzia Executive Committee. Also, we are working with our local business community and convince them to follow our lead”, Irina Vlah said.
