LYCEUM TEACHERS AND PARENTS DEMAND RESIGNATION OF EDUCATION MINISTER

14 june, 2016
LYCEUM TEACHERS AND PARENTS DEMAND RESIGNATION OF EDUCATION MINISTER The teaching staff and the parents of students of Dante Alighieri Lyceum in Chisinau have stood up with a resolute demand to dismiss incumbent Minister of Education [Deputy Chairperson of the Liberal Party] Corina Fusu.

One of the indignant parents, Evelina Parasca, said at a news conference at Infotag today that the raising of signatures against Fusu had been started in the lyceum.

“Her resignation should mark the onset of principal changes in the education sector and may be even in the whole country. The lyceum parents and teachers want the Ministry of Education to organize a repeated contest for appointing a lyceum director, to resolve the ongoing conflict with incumbent lyceum director Rodica Gutu, and to discharge Corina Fusu from the ministerial post. We have already sent such petition to the Ministry – 57 days ago, but we haven’t received a reply until now”, said Parasca.

Teacher of history Natalia Diacenco named “a pack of lies” Minister Fusu’s assertions that only a few teachers are allegedly discontented with the new director.

“The whole staff is utterly dissatisfied with the new director – 100% teachers and the rest employees. The new director would not repay salaries to us for 3 months already for a ridiculous reason – the absence of official rubber stamp! To suppress our discontent, the ministry decided to launch a thorough check at the lyceum at the end of May – perhaps the year’s most difficult period when teachers are busy with exams and with preparation of annual reports. We perceive all this as pressure on teachers who are demanding to remove Gutu and appoint a new director”, said Natalia Diacenco.

The parents and teachers shared the opinion that to resolve the conflict, it is necessary to organize a new contest for appointing a lyceum director, and that the contest results must be drawn up by a whole contest jury, and not by one person.

Also, they are angry over Minister Fusu’s refusal to agree to a meeting with stakeholders to discuss and resolve the aggravating conflict.
