GERMAN AND POLISH EMBASSIES TO MARK 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF TREATY BETWEEN COUNTRIES Embassies of Germany and Poland to Moldova, jointly with the Chisinau Primaria [city government] and Serghei Lunchevici National Philharmonic will organize concerts dedicated to the 25th anniversary since the day of signing the German-Polish Treaty on Good-Neighborliness.

 

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Moldova Ulrike Knotz said at the Tuesday’s news conference at Infotag that concerts are also dedicated to 170th anniversary of first Chisinau Mayor Karl Shmidt, whose father was German, while mother – Pole.

 

Given the historical past of the two countries, the treaty, signed 25 years ago has an important role in bilateral relations, as well as in implementation of joint European projects, Knotz said.

 

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland to Moldova Artur Michalski said that the treaty, signed by Germany and Poland became the proof that there is nothing impossible, especially for the two countries that have a sad historical past.

 

National Philharmonic Director Svetlana Bivol said that this year the event is special as it will be conducted two days and concerts will be of different genres.

 

According to her, the official events will start on June 24 in the philharmonic’ square, where Karl Shmidt monument is located. In the morning, flowers will be laid to the monument, while at 19:00 in the evening an open-air jazz concert will be held, with participation of Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts (AMTAP) jazz orchestra, the Jazz Band Univox and local musicians.

 

Bivol added that Moldovan singer Geta Burlacu will also participate in the contest.

 

Musicologist of the Moldova Organ Hall Janna Tudose said that on June 26, the Chisinau Summer Theater will host classic music concert, within which musicians from Moldova, Poland and Germany will perform music of composers of the three countries, among which Ludwig Van Beethoven (Germany), Mikhail Ogynsky (Poland), Marian Stircea (Moldova), Eugen Doga (Moldova) and others.

 

Organizers of the event said that in case it rains on June 24 and 26, concerts will be held in the national philharmonics. The entrance to concerts is free.

 

German Embassy organizes open-air summer concert in Chisinau annually for already 15 years.
