25 august, 2016
PRO-MOLDOVA ASSOCIATION PUBLISHES THREE-VOLUME “HISTORY OF MOLDOVA” With the Party of Socialists’ assistance, the Association of Historians and Political Scientists “Pro-Moldova” has issued a three-volume edition “The History of Moldova” within the framework of the campaign “I Love Moldova” continuing in this republic.

Patria Party Chairman Emil Ciobu, Moldova’s former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Romania, said at the news conference at Infotag today that the goal of this edition is to present truth about Moldova’s appearance and development over centuries.

Its first volume is dedicated to the events that were taking place in the Moldova territory in the 11th – 17th centuries; the second volume – to the period between the 18th century and the year 1917; and the third volume describes events between 1918 and the present time.

Emil Ciobu said that the history of Romania is a good history, but Moldova has a history of its own, and it must be studied in local schools and other educational institutions.

Party of Socialists leader MP Igor Dodon has reminded that in 2011 the PSRM launched the campaign “I Love Moldova”, in whose frame the organization is doing much in support of the Moldovan youth and “all those who want to do real deeds for Moldova’s good”.

“In the campaign framework, we responded to the Pro-Moldova Association’s request to help it publish the three-volume book. In February 2015, tens of people embarked on an active work on the publication. Historians were collecting and systematizing information and documents, working to make every word in the book based on historic facts and documents. The circulation of the book in the Moldovan language is 1,000 copies, and most of them will be distributed free among schools. And in September, the book will come out also in Russian”, said Igor Dodon.

He stressed that the Socialists have always stood up for teaching “The History of Moldova” subject at Moldovan schools and other educational institutions, “but as long as the current authorities remain in power, they will certainly be doing their utmost to force the Moldovan youth to study “The History of the Romanians”. But a nation that does not know its own history has no future. Fortunately, no political regimes are eternal. And this incumbent regime will fall one fine day soon, and then Moldovan schoolchildren will again be studying the history of their native country”.

President of Moldovan Institute of Foreign Relations (IRIM) Dr. Valentin Beniuc criticized the authorities’ idea to draw an enormous map of Moldova on the asphalt in the middle of the Chisinau’s main square.

“Thousands of motor vehicles, public transport etc. are thus riding upon the map day and night, and on the Independence Day [August 27] soldiers will be marching on it, and military vehicles creeping. That’s how the history and culture of Moldova are being spit on”, said the institute head.
