 MOST MOLDOVANS BELIEVE ELECTIONS ARE RIGGED YET BEFORE POLLING DAY – RESEARCH More than a half of Moldovans are convinced that elections in this republic are falsified yet before the polling day, as per the findings of the opinion research called “Vox Populi October 2016: What Should President of Moldova Be Like”, whose results were presented at Infotag.

 

The opinion concerning “yet before election campaigns” is shared by 31.8% citizens plus 21.6% believe that falsifications are practiced during an election campaign. Twelve percent think that fraud takes place on ballot days during the voting, 9% – that during the vote count, and 7% – that during the preparation of electoral reports.

 

47% respondents believe that falsifications influence on the election outcome, 32% – that strongly influence, 10.9% – insufficiently influence, and 1% believe – don't influence at all.

 

Asked who influences falsifications the most, 37% responded – the authorities, 21% – criminal groups, 21% – the media, 12% – opposition parties, 12% – election executives, 11% – the judiciary, 9% – voters, and 5% – miscellaneous state institutions.

 

For bribing voters, election runners must be withdrawn from the election campaign and brought to legal responsibility – believe 34% respondents, must only be withdrawn from the election race – 17%, must be sued in court – 29%, must not be punished – believe 7%.

 

Thirty-one percent respondents spoke out against holding an early parliamentary election at the present time, and 57% demanded such an election.

 

24.7% Moldovans said they are interested in politics, 10% – strongly interested, 49.2% – not very much, and 15.4% said “I don't care at all”.

 

The idea of Moldova’s accession to the European Union is shared by 39% respondents, and to the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union – 43%.

 

The opinion poll was carried out by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova on September 19 through 30. It involved 1,165 adult residents of 79 various-type populated areas across the country. The pollsters are saying that error should not exceed ±3%.
