DODON MAINTAINS POPULARITY LEAD AMONG CANDIDATES

Party of Socialists leader Igor Dodon is remaining the most popular of all candidates running for Moldovan presidency, as per the sociological research called “Evolution of Electoral Behavior in Moldova”, whose findings were presented at a news conference in Infotag on Wednesday.
Sergiu Raietchi, Director of the Center for Sociological Researches of Moldova, said at the result presentation that the research was undertaken on the CSRM’s own initiative and carried out on its money on September 21 through October 8, and it covered 1,100 adult respondents. The result error should not exceed ±3%.
The poll revealed that 28.5% interviewed citizens are ready to vote for Party of Socialists leader MP Igor Dodon. For Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) Chairperson Maia Sandu – 15.9%, for Democratic Party leader Marian Lupu – 12.5%, DA Platform Chairman Andrei Nastase – 11.9%, European People’s Party of Moldova (EPPM) leader Iurie Leanca – 5%, Our Party candidate Dmitry Ciubasenco – 4%, The Right party leader Anna Gutu – 2.3%, and Liberal Party Chairman Mihai Ghimpu – 2%.
Asked directly who they think is the most worthy personality for the presidential post, 15% replied – Igor Dodon, 9% – Maia Sandu, 7% – Marian Lupu, 6% – Andrei Nastase, 4% – Renato Usatii.
The respondents believe that the next President of Moldova must be first and foremost honest (25%), clever (12%), patriotic (9%), strong (8%), practical (8%).
Seventy-three percent respondents believe the president should be a man, 73% – an intellectual, 52% – a person with an “iron grip”, 78% – experienced, 59% – a pre-European, 62% – a state-minded person.
In reply to another question, only 41% Moldovans said they believe that the supreme post should be given to a state-minded person, 35% – to a supporter of unification with Romania, and 24% – to a pro-Russia politician.
Raietchi stressed that pollsters used the answers of only those citizens, who have decided to go to the polls on October 30, and these constituted 92% interviewed people. And 80% of all respondents said they went to the parliamentary polls in November 2014.
In the rating of trust, the leader is Maia Sandu – with 38% citizens trusting her. She is followed by Igor Dodon with 35%, Marian Lupu – 25%, Andrei Nastase – 23%. And in the rating of mistrust, the leader is Vlad Filat with 94% citizens having no trust in him, followed by Mihai Ghimpu – 85%, Vlad Plahotniuc – 84% and incumbent President Nicolae Timofti – 82%.
Asked about a possible parliamentary election, 25.2% respondents replied they would vote for the Party of Socialists, 15.5% – for the PAS party, 12.4% – for the Democratic Party, 9.1% – for DA Platform, 6.2% for Our Party.
According to the poll, 54% interviewed citizens regard the current socio-economic situation in Moldova as bad, and 24% – as satisfactory.
