COMOARA DEMANDS TO FIRE CHISINAU MUNICIPAL CULTURE CHIEF The Comoara fold music and dance company is demanding from the Chisinau Primaria [city government] to dismiss Lucia Culev, Director of the municipal Culture Department, and to bring back Comoara’s concertmaster, accompanist, and conductor.

 

Member of the fold music company Gheorghe Furculita said at the press conference that Lucia Culev tries to take the hall away, where the band rehears.

 

According to him, “the hall is provided to the ensemble free of charge, all maintenance costs are paid by the Chisinau city hall”.

 

“Lucia Culev wants to give the hall to other people, to drove musicians and dancers out on the street. On November 11, the Culture Department held the certification of the ensemble and the commission members negatively assessed the participants’ skills. In response to that the ensemble members chanted “Down with jury”, but the commission said that the ensemble did not receive the certification and left”, said Furculita.

 

Livina Suru, ensemble member said that “there is no any official document stating that the ensemble is not certified”.

 

She appealed to the Culture Minister Monica Babuc with request “to support the ensemble”.

 

“Of course, the ensemble members are not professionals, but despite this, we all train and represent Chisinau and Moldova in competitions. All participants go abroad to participate in competitions at their own expense”, said Suru.

 

The dancers also stressed that on November 17 they will appeal to the Ministry of Culture with the request to support them. According to them, they intend to fight to the end and “even to pursue in court”.
