SINDLEX TRADE UNION FEDERATION DISSATISFIED WITH AMENDMENTS TO LAW ON PENSIONS FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL Sindlex trade union federation is dissatisfied with the amendments on the Law on pension benefits for military personnel and people of commanding and ordinary structure of internal affairs bodies, adopted by the Government.

Federation Chairman Mikhail Lascu said at Friday’s press conference that according to the amendments, beginning from January 1, 2017, the National Social Insurance House will set pensions for the military personnel.

“Such decision is a threat to threat to the security of Moldova and the military personnel, since CNAS will receive all confidential information about the law enforcement agencies, who carried out secret missions. Transferring such information is nothing but declassification of confidential data”, said Lascu.

“Sindlex and the law enforcement officers are ready to participate in talks to discuss amendments”, said Lascu, noting that trade unions do not require abolition of the law but abolition of the proposed amendments.

Sindlex Secretary General Angela Otian said that if authorities think that there were frauds in the pension system of the military personnel, it was enough to check but not to make such amendments to the law, endangering the law enforcement officers.

“In any other European or post-Soviet country the pension system for military personnel is separated from the pension system of other citizens, thus ensuring safety of employees”, she said.

According to her, Moldova must learn from the mistakes of Romania, where similar amendments made five years ago returned to the old system of calculation and payment of pensions.

Sindlex trade union federation Vice Chairman Alexander Gobjila said that the trade union appealed to the authorities with the requirement to provide a response regarding the necessity of amendments, but the answer was never received.

The press conference participant noted that they will hand over a written declaration to the Government, members of Parliament, demanding not to adopt amendments to the law and to support trade unions.

Infotag’s dossier: On November 23, the Government approved amendments to the law on pension provision of military personnel and people of commanding and ordinary structure of internal affairs bodies.
