UNION OF PENSIONERS URGING MOLDOVANS TO PROTEST AGAINST PENSION REFORM

14 december, 2016
UNION OF PENSIONERS URGING MOLDOVANS TO PROTEST AGAINST PENSION REFORM The Union of Moldovan Pensioners called on citizens to come on December 16 in front of the Government to protest against pension system reform.

Chairman of the Union Victor Leanca said at the Wednesday’s news conference at Infotag that a declaration has already been elaborated which will be transmitted to the Government, the Parliament and the President of Moldova.

According to him, the draft law on pension reform has been developed in a hurry and without public hearings. The amendments, proposed by the authorities, will affect about 700 thousand pensioners.

“The Government has approved draft reform of the pension system despite the fact that it has been criticized much. Though the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family has established the term of draft discussion till December 14, the Government approved the document on December 5, while the Parliament approved it in a first reading on December 8”, Leanca said.

He added that the draft does not have justified calculations, no source of financing has been established for pension raising.

“The pension system reform would have been timely, had it been implemented in stages. At the first stage the pension should be raised, as the parliamentary opposition proposes, as well as a special social fund should be created, which would be responsible for pension payment. At the second stage, the pension should be raised to those, who retired in 2001-2008”, Leanca said.

According to him, if the authorities keep ignoring pensioners’ demands even after the protest, the Union will demand early parliamentary elections.

Union Deputy Chairman Nicolae Stratulat said that first of all Moldova has to fight against corruption and find out where Balti and Orhei mayors have so much money from, given their young age.

“Where ex-presidential candidate, head of Gas Natural Fenosa in 2008-2015 Silvia Radu and former National Bank of Moldova President Dorin Dragutanu have salaries worth tens of thousands of lei from? When doctors and teachers are receiving salary worth 2 thousand per month, some are receiving tens of thousands, doing nothing”, he resented.

Representatives of the Union of Pensioners maintain that the authorities’ hurry and the adoption of the pension system reform will negatively affect the population of Moldova.
