GRIGORE PETRENCO REGISTERS CIVIL SUIT TO PARTICIPATE IN INVESTIGATING BANK FRAUD

20 january, 2017
GRIGORE PETRENCO REGISTERS CIVIL SUIT TO PARTICIPATE IN INVESTIGATING BANK FRAUD “Our Home is Moldova” (OHM) party leader Grigore Petrenco registered on Friday a civil suit to become participant in criminal process on investigating the case of money stealing from Banca de Economii.

At a news conference at Infotag he said that in this way, a precedent is created in Moldova, which allows an ordinary citizen to be well informed about the court consideration of conditions of money disappearance from the bank.

“Please, pay attention that “the theft of the century” is being investigated for already the third year. So many people were “fastened” to it as guilty. Filat was the first, then Veaceslav Platon was added. However, let me remember that the former was actually sentenced for corruption and extorting money from Ilan Shor. Platon is accused of stealing 800 million lei, which is around 40 million euros. Who then is guilty of stealing the main sum, which exceeds 960 million euros?”, the politician wondered.

He said that representatives of the ruling regime are standing behind the stealing of funds from BEM, and first of all – ruling coalition coordinator Vlad Plahotniuc.

“In order to conceal the progress of considering the case against Filat, while now the case against Platon, court hearings are conducted behind closed doors. However, the resonance of cases is such that these should be public and accessible both for citizens and the media. But TV channels, controlled by Plahotniuc are issuing all kind of topics into the media space: politicians’ ice swimming, letter to US President Trump and other nonsense”, he complained, promising that after his appearance in court the country’s population will have the chance to find out the objective information about the case against Platon.

“The next court hearing is planned for January 24. I hope that with my appearance free media outlets will also be allowed to find out about sides’ arguments, as well as actions of judiciary representatives. It is not accidentally that I addressed into court. I also had to suffer from the stealing of money from the banking system, because I took two credits in commercial banks. Now, due to the refinancing rate falling, I am forced to pay more than before the fraud”, Petrenco said, calling representatives of other oppositional parties to join him.

According to him, the stealing from banks is a topic that can unite activists of all the formations regardless of their political preferences.

“All Moldovan citizens were robbed. They were robbed by the people who are now still in power. We have to seek that the court to tell the name of the person, who became the final and the main beneficiary from this unprecedented fraud”, the politician said.

…AND URGES MOLDOVAN PRESIDENT TO INVESTIGATE CONDITIONS OF PROSECUTOR GENERAL APPOINTMENT

Grigore Petrenco called on Moldovan President Igor Dodon to come or send representatives of presidential administration to the Superior Court of Justice (SCJ) hearing on February 2 for investigating the legality of the appointing Eduard Harunjen as Prosecutor General.

At the Friday’s news conference at Infotag, he said that registering a civil sue in the procedure of approval, he managed to achieve challenging the SCJ panel of judges.

“The regime infringed all the red lines in violation of the legislation if such exist. When necessary, judges are taking the side of prosecutors or the side of lawyers. Harunjen was appointed to the post with gross law violations. Harunjen did not have the right to appoint his candidature as he was member of the Superior Council of Prosecutors, which is prohibited by the Law on Prosecution System that has recently entered into force”, Petrenco said.

He called on President Dodon not to adopt an ostrich policy, turning a blind eye on the unlawfulness of Harunjen appointment.

“We have to join efforts and challenge the appointment of this ruling authority representative”, the politician stressed.

He also addressed personally to Harunjen with a demand to refrain from decorating a number of prosecutors on the occasion of February 27 – the date of 25th anniversary of Moldovan prosecution system founding.

“I would ask you to wait till the SCJ issues the final decision on this case. I challenged the decoration of a number of prosecutors due to the fact that they are participants and initiators of political processes against lawyers, to prevent the situation that these decorations will have to be returned”, Petrenco said.
