OHM LEADER DISCONTENTED WITH IDEA TO AWARD DISHONEST JUDGES WITH DIPLOMAS AND PREMIUMS

OHM LEADER DISCONTENTED WITH IDEA TO AWARD DISHONEST JUDGES WITH DIPLOMAS AND PREMIUMS “Our Home is Moldova” (OHM) party leader Grigore Petrenco is going to challenge with court the decision taken by the Superior Council of Magistrates to award 55 judges with Diplomas of Honor and cash premiums.

He said at a news conference in Infotag on Wednesday that these incentives had been timed to March 3, when an annual meeting of Moldovan judges will be held in Chisinau.

“There would perhaps be nothing extraordinary in all this, had it not been for the strange behavior of the SMC leadership. They have not yet published the list of premium recipients on the SMC website. But as far as I know, the list contains the names of such personalities as Chisinau Appeals Court Chairman Ion Plesca, judges Ion Druta and Constantin Scobioala. Druta is renowned for his participation in the scandalous tragic hunt in the Padurea Domneasca national park in December 2013, and the rest two are known for their passing unrightful court judgments, due to which the Moldovan State Budget suffered losses worth millions”, said Grigore Petrenco.

The ex-parliamentarian stated he would challenge the SMC decision with the Supreme Court, where he will present his arguments why the above judges may not be rewarded by the organ that must supervise their activities.

Petrenco touched on 2 more judges – Ludmila Ursu of the Sectorul Riscani Court of Chisinau and Andrei Gafton of the Sectorul Centru Court.

“Recently, these two personalities were approved by a presidential decree as Chisinau Appeals Court judges. It perplexed me to learn of that decision. Does President Igor Dodon really have no idea about what role these two judges played in the politically motivated trials initiated by the Moldovan authorities by order of oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc?” wondered the opposition politician.

He reminded that Ursu had a direct relation to the 6-month-long custody of the Petrenco group members arrested on charges of organization of unrest before the Prosecutor General’s Office on September 6, 2015.

“That was an obvious frame-up done so amateurishly that the subsequent 1.5 years of criminal prosecution ended in a complete fiasco of the prosecution side. In that period, Judge Ludmila Ursu personally denied me the right to undergo an independent medical examination and rejected numerous guarantees for me and my comrades sent in here by Members of the European Parliament. What else can all this be if not fulfillment of the ruling regime’s orders?” wondered Grigore Petrenco.

“Judge Gafton is a personage no less remarkable than his colleague Ursu. He conducted the notorious Antifa [anti-fascist] case, when in the autumn of 2014 the authorities were intimidating the population through Plahotniuc-owned mass media with an approaching coup d’etat that was allegedly to be carried out by a handful of youngsters. As a result, the innocent and unsuspecting young people spent 5 months in custody, but nobody has been brought to responsibility for that atrocious injustice and arbitrariness”, stated Grigore Petrenco, who is an ex-Deputy Chairman of the Unified European Left group in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

He urged President Igor Dodon to annul his decree on appointing Judges Ursu and Gafton to the Chisinau Appeals Court and to revoke the decree from the Superior Council of Magistrates.
