CHISINAU TO HOST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON STATEHOOD OF MOLDOVA

22 march, 2017
CHISINAU TO HOST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON STATEHOOD OF MOLDOVA International scientific conference “The Statehood of the Republic of Moldova: Historic Continuation and Development Perspectives” will be held in Chisinau on March 24-25.

Presidential Adviser on Education, Culture and Sciences Corneliu Popovici said at a news conference in Infotag on Tuesday that the forum has been organized by the Moldovan Institute of Foreign Relations (IRIM) under President Igor Dodon’s patronage.

“This is going to be a unique conference where scientists will discuss not only the meaning of the word ‘statehood’ but also questions like equipping Moldova’s historic flag with an official status, the studying of the history of Moldova at schools and the institutionalization of February 2 as Moldova Statehood Day”, said Popovici.

In his words, “You can’t perhaps find a single other country in the world where history is taught and studied on the basis of ethnic differentiation. Everywhere pupils are taught the history of their country. Even in Romania, they study just history, not “The History of the Romanians” as is the practice in Moldova. A change of our school program is natural, and there is nothing bad about it. Everybody in Moldova, including indeed civil servants, must know the history and language of their country”.

Dr. Valentin Beniuc, President of Moldovan State Institute of International Relations (IRIM), said the conference will hear 80 scientists from 12 countries. The forum will adopt a Resolution. Subsequently, two volumes of conference materials will be published.

“We have a history of our own, but we seem to be ashamed of it, and we often reject it. For a nation to continue its existence, the people must study and know the language and history of their native country”, maintains Dr. Valentin Beniuc, ex-Minister of Education.
