FRANCE WILL SUPPORT MOLDOVA IN THE PROCESS OF REFORMS’ IMPLEMENTING -AMBASSADOR PASCAL LE DEUNFF

France will support Moldova in the implementation of reforms aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens. This was stated on Thursday at a press conference at the Infotag agency by the French Ambassador to Moldova Pascal Le Deunff.

He reminded that “the European Union (EU) provides substantial assistance to Moldova in the process of implementing the Association Agreement.”

“Moreover, with the support and funding of the EU, many projects are being implemented in Moldova to reform the justice system, develop infrastructure, support education, health care and the social sphere. France finances the EU budget in the proportion of 17%. This means that 17% of the EU assistance to Moldova falls on the French Republic,” the diplomat emphasized.

In addition, the Ambassador noted that “France independently finances a number of important projects in Moldova.” He spoke about four areas of cooperation with the financial participation of France.

The first concerns the implementation of the project in the framework of the reform of the justice and justice system. In particular, with the support of France, a project in the field of probation is being implemented, aimed at the application of alternative punishment for offenses, designed to replace imprisonment, including for minors and other categories of citizens.

The second area concerns the improvement of the work of lawyers and their qualifications.

“We plan to implement this project together with Lithuania in 2021, after the approval of the concept of reforming justice. The project will be financed by 1 million euros,” Le Deunff stressed.

The third direction is the protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, the development of democracy and equality. Within the framework of this direction, assistance is provided to victims of violence. Also, on Thursday, courses are held for police officers and carabinieri who are involved in helping victims in cases of domestic violence.

“As part of this direction, we pay special attention to the implementation of the provisions of the Istanbul Convention, as well as the protection of the rights of women and children and the support of independent media,” the official stated.

The fourth area of cooperation is related to the provision of health care.

“In March, France was among the first countries to provide assistance to Moldova in the fight against COVID-19 and we continue to provide such assistance in the fight against the pandemic. In addition, we provide assistance to Moldovan specialists in the field of transplantation, so that transplantation to save lives in Moldova is carried out in the best conditions,” Le Deunff emphasized.

According to him, “France annually finances 3-4 important projects in Moldova, the participants of which are selected on a competitive basis.”

On Thursday, such a project in the field of decentralized French-Moldovan cooperation – “Sustainable waste management in the central-eastern region of the country” was launched in Moldova. It is designed for 18 months and the cost is 200 thousand euros.
