Moldova will receive a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for 23.5 million euros for the modernization of railways. On Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spinu and EBRD Regional Director Matteo Patrone signed a loan agreement.

Spinu wrote on social networks that “the money will be used to modernize the railway infrastructure at the Benderi-Causeni-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti section.”

“This is the busiest section of the road, providing transit of goods from Romania and Ukraine,” Spinu stated, noting that the reanimation of the railway industry is just beginning.

The minister believes that “effective capital management, maximum responsibility and discipline will allow the sector to acquire a new image.”
