21 february, 2023

The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, has cancelled his decree of May 7, 2012, which also dealt with ways to resolve the Transnistrian conflict. INFOTAG news agency reports that the new decree was signed on February 21.

It cancels the decree "On measures to implement the foreign policy of the Russian Federation. This Decree stipulated "consistent implementation of the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the United States of America on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Arms, signed on April 8, 2010."It was this clause that caused the decree to be rescinded, as Vladimir Putin said in his address to the Federal Assembly on Tuesday that Russia was suspending its participation in the Treaty.

The eight-page edict refers to "the rule of law in international relations, the development of cooperation in multilateral diplomacy, including the G20 and the G8, and the Customs Union (which no longer exists - "I.").

Separately, the Decree refers to a "strategic objective" in relations with the European Union - "the creation of a single economic and human space from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean." The cancelled decree also stipulated "support for the activities of the Council of Europe (Russia has suspended its participation in the organization – “I.”)" and activities within the framework of the Russia-NATO Council.

In addition, the cancelled decree also touched on conflict resolution. It spoke, among other things, about "finding a solution to the Transnistrian problem on the basis of respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and neutral status of the Republic of Moldova."
