POLL: MORE THAN HALF OF MOLDOVAN CITIZENS ARE ON SIDE OF UKRAINE IN WAR, WHILE ONE IN FIVE IS ON SIDE OF RUSSIA

Almost 2/3 of Moldovan citizens believe Russia is at war with Ukraine and 26% consider that Russia is conducting a special military liberation operation in Ukraine. This is evidenced by the data of a poll carried out by Magenta Consulting on its own initiative to find out the opinion of Moldovan residents about the military actions in the neighboring country.

According to the research, 34% of respondents are definitely on the side of Ukraine, 17% are rather on the side of Ukraine, 10% are rather on the side of Russia, 10% are definitely on the side of Russia, 21% are on no one side and 7% are undecided or refuse to answer.

On the issue of Russian President Vladimir Putin managing the conflict, 61% were negative and 25% were positive. The actions of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy were assessed positively by 50% of respondents, and negatively by 37%.

About half of the respondents consider that the war between Russia and Ukraine will last not more than a month, 9% - 2-3 months, 7% - half a year, 15% - a year, or even more.

When asked how the war would affect the security of Moldova, 45% responded that it would affect a lot, 25% - rather a lot, 12% - rather a little, 18% - little or no effect.

In the context of the application of President Maia Sandu for accession of Moldova to the European Union, 40% spoke out clearly in favour of the European future of the country, 21% - rather yes, 10% - rather no, and 21% - categorically against.

As sources of information about the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, most often the residents of Moldova use Facebook - 25%, TV channels - 16%, public channel Moldova 1 - 15%, ProTV and TV8 - 14% each.

The survey was conducted on March 3-5 among 539 residents of the right bank of the Dniester River by telephone. The margin of error is ± 4.2%.
