​MOLDOVA COMPLETED YEAR 2022 WITH RECORD INFLATION OF 30.24%

In 2022, the rate of inflation in Moldova marked 30.24%, which is a record figure for the republic in this century. Compared to 2021 (13.94%), the consumer price index has thus more than doubled.

According to the National Statistics Bureau, tariffs on services to the population increased the most over the past year - by an average of 43.97%. They are followed by foodstuffs, whose prices grew up by 31.80% and non-food items - 19.94%.

Electricity tariffs for households soared last year by 2.7-fold, coal prices - 2.1-fold, natural gas - 1.8-fold. And among food products - eggs (+59.1%), vegetables (+56.1%), sugar (+55.7%), fruits (+48.8%).

Statisticians say that in the last month of 2022, prices increased by an average of 0.76%, including 1.23% for foodstuffs, 1.17% for services, and only 0.02% for non-food goods.

The average annual inflation rate was 28.7% against 5.1% in 2021, the National Statistics Bureau reported.

As was already reported by Infotag, at the beginning of last year, the Ministry of Economy predicted inflation in 2022 to be 15.7%, but in November it changed its forecast to 34.6%.
