MARINA TAUBER BELIEVES THAT AUTHORITIES INTEND TO DEPRIVE HER OF HER DEPUTY MANDATE USING THE GENERAL PROSECUTOR

Independent deputy Marina Tauber stated that the authorities intend to deprive her of her mandate in order to hinder her further political activity. She announced this on Wednesday at a press conference at the INFOTAG agency, stating that a criminal case initiated by the General Prosecutor's Office would be used for this purpose.

In April 2023, when the Appeal Court of Chisinau was considering the case against Ilan Shor, Marina Tauber entered the courtroom and using a megaphone, made a statement: "Down with corrupt judges!" and demanded their resignation. The prosecution considered this as interference in the administration of justice using official position. In March 2024, the parliament stripped Tauber of parliamentary immunity, and the day before, the Prosecutor General's Office referred the case to court.

"I never thought that expressing one's opinion could become the subject of criminal prosecution. But it has come to that. I can no longer specify the exact number of cases initiated due to my political activity. It seems that the persecution of Marina Tauber is turning into a national sport," said the MP.

The deputy believes that currently, "the authorities, led by Maia Sandu, are trying to silence her and shield her from political activity."

"The main goal is to deprive me of my deputy mandate. Just like they (the authorities) did in the case of Ilan Mironovich Shor. They are not even very interested in locking me up in prison; they just want me not to interfere with them during parliament sessions. The first court session will take place on Friday, April 5. Such promptness is admirable. I think the sessions will be held daily to achieve the desired result faster," noted Tauber.
