EU COUNTRIES ACCOUNT FOR 67% TRANSNISTRIAN EXPORTS AND 50% IMPORTS

08 february, 2023

The European Union countries account for 67% of Transnistrian exports and 50% of imports to the Transnistrian region, says Moldova’s National Bureau for Country Reintegration.

According to its data, in 2022, exports from Transnistria to European Union countries increased by 10.2%, amounting to 67.1%. During the year, imports from the EU to the Transnistrian region grew up by 4.4%, amounting to 50.1%. At the same time, more than 80% of Transnistria’s trade relations with the European Union fall on five countries - Romania, Poland, Italy, Germany and Slovakia.

The Reintegration Bureau pointed out that this situation was caused by the closure of the Transnistrian segment of the Moldova-Ukraine border.

“There has been a change in logistics chains and an even more pronounced redirection of trade and economic activity in the region towards the EU market, as well as to the intensification of cooperation with the right bank of the Dniester [mainland Moldova”, the Reintegration Bureau said.

According to the State Register of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs, there are 2,336 Transnistrian economic entities registered with the Public Property Agency (PPA), including 1,850 registered temporarily.
