TERMOELECTRICA WILL USE 5,000 TONS OF FUEL OIL FROM STATE RESERVES IN ORDER NOT TO DAMAGE STATE BUDGET

Termoelectrica company will use 5 thousand tons of fuel oil from the state reserves in order not to damage the state budget, according to a government resolution adopted on Wednesday.

The draft resolution notes that earlier the company received fuel from state reserves for storage. But due to the fact that only two out of four tanks were in working condition, the storage rate was exceeded by almost 10%. This jeopardized the normal functioning of the tanks. There is also a possibility that the entire volume of fuel oil from the state reserves may be lost, which entails both the risk of environmental pollution and significant financial losses.

Therefore, following a government meeting in March, it was decided to burn these volumes. Termoelectrica uses the fuel to produce heat and electricity, and the National Regulatory Agency will take these volumes into account when adjusting the tariffs for 2024.

The government decree will enter into force upon publication in the Monitorul oficial. After that, Termoelectrica will have to return 102.4 million lei to the state budget within 12 months for the used fuel oil.
