CENTRAL BANK’S HARD-CURRENCY RESERVE SHRANK BY $6.68 MILLION IN FEBRUARY

The hard-currency reserve of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) diminished in February by another $6.86 million – down to $5.39 billion as of March 1.

According to the NBM press service, the reduction was mainly due to payments to service the external public debt - $20.84 million; payments by the Ministry of Finance - $15.56 million; revaluation of government securities - $11.48 million; net payments related to mandatory reserves of licensed banks in foreign currency - $4.38 million; decrease in exchange rates of currencies included in the reserves against the US dollar - $4.12 million.

Some factors had a positive impact on the NBM reserve: receipt of loans by the Ministry of Finance - $28.30 million; profit from managing foreign exchange reserves - $16.60 million; net proceeds to the Foreign Assistance Program Management Office - $4.22 million.

INFOTAG's dossier: A record level of the NBM reserve was registered on December 29, 2023 - $5.45 billion. At the end of December 2022 the reserve was $4.47 billion, 2021 - $3.90 billion, 2020 - $3.78 billion.
