26 december, 2023

A man, who reported planting an explosive device in the apartment building where President Maia Sandu lives, has been sentenced to one year and eight months in a semi-closed penitentiary institution. According to the Prosecutor's Office, the incident occurred on July 23, 2022, when a man called the 112 Service and reported that he had planted a grenade in the entrance of an apartment building in the Buiucani sector, where Maia Sandu lives. Shortly afterwards, he was detained by the police. It turned out that it was not the first time that the man violated the law. Previously, he was sentenced to 1 year of suspended imprisonment with a 3-year probation period, after he called the 112 Service in 2020 and reported that he had planted a grenade in the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ in the center of Chisinau. Despite these circumstances, the court did not impose an arrest against the detainee. As a result, he absconded and did not appear in court. The convicted person will be put on a wanted list.
