PARTY OF SOCIALISTS EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER STATEMENTS BY BRITISH FOREIGN MINISTRY

23 may, 2022

The Party of Socialists (PSRM) has expressed "serious concern over the statement of British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss about the need for NATO countries to supply weapons to Moldova to stop an invasion by Bladimir Putin."

In a statement on the subject, the PSRM drew attention to the fact that these words were uttered "without any public discussion with representatives of the top leadership of Moldova."

"If consultations between Moldova and Great Britain and/or other NATO countries took place and were behind the scenes, behind the back of the people of Moldova", the Party of Socialists "strongly condemns them and demands that the presidential staff, the government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the parliamentary majority immediately give explanations to the general public".

At the same time, the formation demands that the authorities "cease all actions and refuse all statements undermining the constitutional status of the permanent neutrality of the Republic of Moldova."

PSRM honorary chairman, former President of Moldova Igor Dodon called Liz Truss a "war hawk," urging her to be "sensible."

"We wish all the war hawks of the West, and personally Liz Truss, head of the British Foreign Ministry, that they themselves never need their own deadly weapons, either to attack or to defend themselves. May they all be sensible and not provoke conflict on our soil. And let the logic of peace, not the logic of war, guide their minds," wrote Dodon in his telegram channel.

He also reminded that "Moldova is a neutral state and it is our main geopolitical advantage in the face of any military risks."

"And the military "aid" from NATO may turn out to be that proverbial bear service that will only make us worse, attract grief to our country and turn our soldiers and our people into cannon fodder in the cynical scenarios of big world players. We don't need that! Moldova needs PEACE, not a NATO war plan!", Dodon summed up.
