RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AGAIN THREATENS MOLDOVA THAT IT COULD REPEAT THE FATE OF UKRAINE

19 february, 2024

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, has again threatened Moldova that it may repeat the fate of Ukraine. He said this while outlining his view on the situation in Moldova.

In his opinion, the crisis in Ukraine was provoked by the West, when in 2013, when signing the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine, "Brussels gave Kiev an ultimatum: 'Either us or Russia'."

"The same thing is now being done to Chisinau, ultimatums are being presented. Chisinau obediently complies. They say that if Gagauzia tolerates politicians who oppose joining the European Union, there will be no subsidies. Is this democracy?" Lavrov stressed.

According to him, "Mrs. Sandu and her cabinet, including the new Foreign Minister Mihai Popshoi, oppose Russia on a daily basis."

"As I understand it, in their documents they called the Transnistrian region a hostile pro-Russian enclave with which they do not want to resume an equal dialog aimed at a political settlement," Lavrov noted.

A few days earlier, the Russian foreign minister had already declared his intention to protect Transnistria, where "after all, 200,000 Russian citizens live."

"And, of course, we are concerned about their fate, and we will not allow them to become victims of yet another Western adventure to destabilize the region," Lavrov concluded.
