FROM POLITICAL POINT OF VIEW, ACTIONS OF CREATING "VICTORY" BLOC CAN BE QUALIFIED AS "HIGH TREASON" - MP LILIAN CARP

The head of the Parliamentary Commission for National Security, Defense and Public Order, Lilian Carp, believes that from the political point of view, the actions to create the "Victory" bloc can be qualified as "high treason". He said this on air of the TV channel Rlive.

"From a political point of view, these actions can be qualified as treason. All this can be regarded as a direct interference in the politics of Moldova. All the parties that Shor has created over the past years, he is now uniting them into an electoral bloc. This is happening in a very important election year, because it is easier for them to transmit messages from one center instead of spreading messages through separate parties," Carp stated.

According to him, a legal assessment of these actions should be made by the prosecutor's office.

"I saw that the Prosecutor General said that they will analyze the actions of the people who organized this action. And this will be correct. I can only give a political characterization: this is high treason. Shor directly takes actions to destabilize Moldova," Carp stressed.

He noted that one should always act according to the law. Answering the questions, the deputy said that this also applies to the statements of Gagauzia's governor Evghenia Gutul, who recently threatened that "the autonomy may declare independence if Moldova decides to unite with Romania." In his opinion, these statements do not fall under the anti-separatism law.

"A statement should be followed by actions. In this case there were no actions. We live in a state of law, where the law must be respected even against a bandit. Otherwise, we may find ourselves in a situation when any person who said such a thing in a social network will be prosecuted. But this is absurd. Any statement should be followed by an attempt to take action. The ISS collects evidence, the prosecutor's office decides whether the actions of a politician or a person lead to a destabilizing situation. And then they take action against that person. They know it very well. They bark, they make noise, but they do not bite. Law enforcement agencies are monitoring the situation," Carp concluded.

Earlier, acting Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu said that law enforcers considered the creation of the political bloc "Victory" through the prism of the article of the Criminal Code on treason. According to the Criminal Code, treason is an act committed by a citizen of the Republic of Moldova intentionally to the detriment of sovereignty, territorial integrity or state security by switching to the side of the enemy, espionage or disclosure of state secrets. This crime is punishable by 12 to 20 years of imprisonment.
