CIVIL ACTIVISTS ORGANIZED "DEMAND JUSTICE" ACTION - AGAINST VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

On Tuesday evening, several dozens of civil activists organized a rally in support of women and against violence in front of the government building. The action "Demand Justice" was organized by the National Coalition "Life without Violence", "Women for Women" and the Red Cross representation.

The protesters demanded a prompt investigation and fair punishment for the perpetrator of the murder of a 19-year-old pregnant young woman from Orhei district, who was found dead on April 20, after a week of intensified searches in two districts. The demonstrators held placards "We demand justice for Anna-Maria", "We demand security not only in the words of politicians", "A quality man is not afraid of equality". "You keep quiet while they kill us", "Every 5 minutes one woman dies of violence."

The pregnant girl was last seen in the evening of April 12. She was returning to her dormitory and got into a hitchhiking car. When her disappearance became known, the driver was identified. He turned out to be Gheorghe Cotorobai, who previously worked in the police. He was arrested by court order, does not admit his guilt and refuses to cooperate with the investigation.

Traces of torture were found on the body of the young woman. Anna-Maria was hit several times with a hard object, there are also traces of attempted strangulation, cigarette burns on her hands and marks from a syringe. There are also signs of sexual assault. According to experts, she died of a head injury.

On the fact of the abduction and murder of Ana-Maria a case has been opened under Article 145 of the Criminal Code of Moldova - murder with aggravating circumstances. Under this article, the murderer faces 15 to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
