​GAGAUZIA GOVERNOR AND SPEAKER MEET IN MOSCOW WITH RUSSIAN FEDERAL ASSEMBLY CHAIRPERSON

Gagauzia Bashkan Eugenia Gutul and Dmitry Constantinov, Speaker of the Gagauzia Popular Assembly [regional legislature], met in Moscow on Friday with Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Council of the Federation [the Upper Chamber of the Russian Federation’s bicameral legislative assembly].

According to the Russian mass media, Eugenia Gutul stated that Gagauzia wants Russia’s support.

“Unfortunately, Gagauzia’s rights are infringed on by the central authorities of the Republic of Moldova – to an extent exceeding all thinkable limits. We have had good relations with Russia for many years. We want to continue to be friends so that there is Russian support. And as a minimum, we want to travel to Russia without transfers,” Gutul said, and stressed that this was a very important meeting for her.

Valentina Matviyenko said that Russia is watching the events in Moldova with great sadness, and promised “all possible assistance” to Gagauzia.
