14 march, 2024

The U.S. Ambassador to Moldova, Kent Logsdon, met with students in Gagauzia. As reported by INFOTAG, the embassy announced this on its social media page.

At the Agricultural Technical College in the village of Svetlyi, the diplomat met with students who are learning to use online platforms to manage agricultural enterprises, as well as to operate drones and other modern equipment. The U.S. government, through the USAID Agency, is promoting the digital transformation of agriculture in this educational institution.

“We value our partnership with the residents of Gagauzia! In Comrat, the ambassador met with the leadership of the State University and, together with the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Tigre Demurdjian, participated in an English language conversation club, where he talked about the U.S. education system. It was great to return to Gagauzia!” the embassy's statement said.

During the almost year since the elections in Gagauzia, neither the U.S. ambassador nor other diplomats have met with the governor of Gagauzia, Eugenia Gutul, even once. The EU Ambassador, Janis Mazeiks, stated that diplomats will not meet with the new governor until there are reasons to believe that she is associated with the fugitive oligarch Ilan Sor.
