Chisinau, February 23 (Infotag). Last Saturday, the Leninist-Type Communist Party (CPLT), which is in the process of formation and registration now, held its congress, alternative to the 5th Congress of the Moldovan Communist Party (MCP) held last December 12. Today, the CPLT founder fathers organized a news conference in Infotag and explained that they had withheld the place and date of their congress out of fear of provocations by their principal conceptual political opponents – the now ruling Moldovan Communist Party. Igor Kucher, Executive Secretary of the CPLT Central Committee, said 429 delegates from 29 towns and raions came to Chisinau last weekend. The congress was also attended by the representatives of veterans’ organizations, trade unions, Patria-Rodina Labor Union, other political and non-governmental organizations. Igor Kucher said a greater part of the congress delegates were former MCP members who quitted the party last several years, as well as people who, formally, are still MCP members but who do not share the party leadership’ outlooks. In his words, the emergence of the new Leninist-type party and convocation of the alternative congress were caused by the grassroots Communists’ discontent that the MCP leadership has betrayed true Communist values and has in fact converted the Moldovan Communist Party into a petty-bourgeois organization. The CPLT dislikes that President Voronin and his obedient party elite have changed the Eastern vector of the country's domestic and external policy for a Western vector, that relations with Ukraine, Romania and particularly with the Russian Federation have aggravated lately, and that the Transnistria negotiation process is in deadlock. The congress delegates arrived at a conclusion that the MCP has ceased to be Communist. They called upon all true Communists in Moldova to say goodbye to Voronin and join the Leninist-Type Communist Party.
