The national finale of the 2017-Eurovision Song Contest was held on Saturday, when the music band SunStroke Project was selected to represent Moldova in Kiev in May. The band got an equal score with the collective Ethno Republic & Surorile Osoianu, but the jury preferred SunStroke Project.

The Government of Moldova is preparing a new National Plan of activities in the human-right sphere that will contain a separate chapter on “national and ethnic minorities”, Moldova’s Political Representative at the Transnistria negotiations, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Affairs Gheorghe Balan announced on Tuesday at the Youth Forum of national, ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities.

​JURY SELECTS 14 SONGS FOR PARTICIPATION IN EUROVISION NATIONAL SEMIFINAL

Fourteen performers were selected by a professional jury and will continue fighting for the right to represent Moldova at the Eurovision Song Contest-2017 in Kiev. In total, 40 candidates applied for participation in the national pre-selection. The selected 14 candidates will continue the fight in national semifinal on February 24. Only eight candidates will get in final that will be held on February 25: four will be selected by the jury and the other four – on the basis of TV viewers’ voting.

The Hungarian Embassy to Moldova presented an envelope with a seal and special post stamps on occasion of the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries. Besides, on the occasion of the Day of Hungarian Culture, a jazz concert took place in the National Philharmonic with participation of Hungarian composer and pianist Norbert Kael. He will also give a concert in Tiraspol on Friday. The entrance is free. The Day of Hungarian Culture is annually marked on January 22.

The mass media and journalism in Europe is the main topic of the Winter Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to be held in Strasbourg on January 23-27. Debates are to take place on such issues as attacks against journalists and media in Europe, problems and accountability of online media outlets, the need to put an end to cyber-discrimination and to fomentation of hatred in the Internet. The Assembly will be addressed by President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis, President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn.
