UNIVERSUL PRINTING HOUSE TO BE TRANSFORMED INTO A CENTER FOR CULTURE AND MODERN ART

02 april, 2024

A new Center for Culture and Modern Art, Universul, will be established in Chisinau on the basis of the former eponymous printing house. As reported by INFOTAG, this was announced at a press conference by the Minister of Culture, Sergiu Prodan.

He presented information about the project, directions, events, and priority initiatives for using over 14,000 square meters of the Center's area.

“Here, there will be creative workshops for artists and art galleries. The third block of the National Library will be located here – the repository. We will also have a cinema where author films will be shown, a theater with a stage so that independent groups can conduct master classes, rehearsals, and performances. We want to revive the cultural life in the historical center of the capital and fulfill our obligations to cultural public organizations and independent artists, the creative community, and audiences,” the minister said.

According to preliminary estimates, the technical and economic justification and other documents for the implementation of the project may be completed within a year, and the expenses for implementation are estimated at 15 million euros. The government hopes to receive this amount from the US Embassy as payment for the sale of the former territory of the Republican Stadium.
