PAS IS THREAT TO MOLDOVA’S NATIONAL SECURITY, CIVIL SOCIETY REPRESENTATIVES MAINTAIN

Representatives of the Moldovan civil society and profiled experts believe that “the main threat to the national security of Moldova is posed by the current ruling Party of Action and Solidarity”. They criticized the new National Security Strategy drafted by the PAS and approved by the Parliament recently.

The society activists organized a news conference at INFOTAG on Friday, at which the Head of the Center for Monitoring Citizens' Rights, Tihon Zaraf, called the approved Strategy an “incompetently written document” that does not prescribe such important things as the role of law enforcement agencies, mechanisms of control over the actions of the Information and Security Service, including restrictions on the use of special equipment in conducting investigations.

The expert believes that the Strategy was railroaded in a hasty manner, because the current state of emergency expires on January 1, and the authorities are trying to replace the emergency regime rules with other but similar regulations.

Former Minister of National Security Anatolie Plugaru believes that no one gave PAS a mandate to violate the constitutional principle of the neutrality of Moldova.” He criticized the Government's policy of building up the defense budget.

“Why should we arm our armed forces? Whom are we going to defeat? Everything our foreign partners give us is but rubbish. No army can conduct successful combat operations with second-hand equipment and obsolete weapons. Modernization of the army is a subversive act against us, citizens,” Plugaru stated.  .

Against this background, the experts called on the authorities to revoke the already approved National Security Strategy in order to work out and then present a really working document.
