ENERGY MINISTER CONFIRMS MOLDOVA'S INTEREST IN AMERICAN LIQUEFIED GAS

10 april, 2024

Moldova needs access to American liquefied natural gas (LNG) to reduce its dependence on Russian gas. Energy Minister Victor Parlicov said this at a meeting in Washington with Oil and Gas Association President Tim Stewart and representatives of gas producer Chevron.

The minister noted serious changes in the structure of the gas and oil market in the European Union, given the current embargo on oil imports from Russia and the EU's intention to give up Russian natural gas after 2027.

Parlicov praised the fact that the U.S. managed to become the world's main exporter of liquefied natural gas in a short period of time. He invited large companies to explore the possibilities of supplying it to Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria, where the consumption of Russian energy resources is significantly decreasing. The Moldovan minister also invited American oil companies to take part in exploration works in Moldova in order to assess the potential of geothermal energy in the republic.

As INFOTAG previously reported, on April 1-2, Moldova used American LNG for the first time, purchased in test mode in the Greek port of Alexandroupolis.
