INTERNATIONAL FEDERATIONS WELCOME THE ELECTION OF DMITRI TORNER AS PRESIDENT OF THE WINTER SPORTS ASSOCIATION OF MOLDOVA

The leaders of a number of international federations welcomed the election of Dmitri Torner as president of the Winter Sports Association of Moldova. As the Infotag agency reports with referring to the official website of the BFRM, representatives of international winter sports federations welcomed the initiative of the President of the Winter Sports Association, Dmitry Torner, to restore skiing and luge in Moldova.

Representatives of international federations of winter sports welcomed the initiativeof the President of Moldovan winter sports association Dmitri Torner to revivethe skiing and luge sports in Moldova.

In particular, Christoph Schweiger, Executive director of the International luge federation, has found it as the great news and emphasized : « I’m happy, that Moldova is comingback to the international luge sports». He pointed out, that he fully supports the luge sport revival in the Republic of Moldova. Mr. Schweiger sugested to discuse the best worldwide practices of the luge development at the meeting in the headquarter of the International luge federation at the end of April in Salzburg.

«The new Moldovan initiatives in this area are very interesting for us», - Mr Schweiger noted and expressed support to the Torner’s intention to create the Winter Sports Complex in the country.

Earlier the President of IBU Olle Dahlin also got acquainted with Dmitri Torner’s decision to revive the winter sports along with the intensive development of the biathlon in Moldova. He has endorsed the initiative.

On March 18ththe official websiteof the Biathlon Federation of the Republic of Moldova reported about Dmitri Torner’s election of the President of the Winter sports association of the Republic of Moldova.

Dmitri Torner is a business consultant of a number of European companies- became the head of the Biathlon Federation of the Republic of Moldova in 2021. Since then, the national team has significantly improved its results, winning gold at the European Biathlon Championships in 2022 and two silvers in 2022 and this year.During these years, the Moldovan national team has been consistently ranked in the Top 10 in the World Championships and has high positions in the international ranking of teams. The efforts of individual athletes have been recognized at the state level - in 2022, Moldovan President Maia Sandu awarded the leader of the biathlon team Alina Stremous with the "Meritul Civic" Medal.
