29.06.05 EUROPEAN PARLIAMENTARIAN FOR GASTARBEITER LEGALIZATION

29.06.05 EUROPEAN PARLIAMENTARIAN FOR GASTARBEITER LEGALIZATION Chisinau, June 29 (Infotag). European Parliament member Maria Carlchamre (Sweden) thinks that simplification of the legalization of Moldovan migrant workers abroad would help reduce trafficking in human beings. She told a news conference in Infotag today at the end of her visit to Moldova that if Moldovans are given a possibility to be legally employed abroad, they will need not ask for traffickers’ services. The Europarliamentarian is convinced that Moldova’s accession to the European Union will simplify the procedure of going abroad for work on legal grounds. In her words, responsible for trafficking growth are those countries where sexual services are in high demand, so governments in those countries are to be in the first ranks of combatants against the white slavery. Severe penalties on sexual service consumers may change the situation for the better, too. Maria Carlchamre presumes Moldova should pay more attention to informing its citizens about traffic hazard and help traffic victims to get re-integrated into the civil society. A majority of non-governmental organizations existing in Moldova manage with this task excellently, she stressed. The parliamentarian thinks it is necessary to take more efficient measures also for spotting and punishing trafficking organizers. She discussed this question with Moldovan General Prosecutor's Office CEOs.
