27.01.2005 VALERIU JEREGHI TO DIRECT FILM ADAPTATION OF YACOV TIKHMAN’S NOVEL

Chisinau, January 27 (Infotag). By the end of this year, Valeriu Jereghi, Moldova’s renowned film director, is set to finish his new movie – Creation of Love. The international Project – involving filmmakers from Moldova, Ukraine, Russia, the USA, and Israel – was presented Thursday at Infotag.

Based on a Yacov Tikhman novel Motle Shotkhen, the Film tells the story of a small Jewish community in the 1930’s Ukraine; the town of Zin’kov lives in harmony with a Jewish synagogue, Russian Orthodox church, Catholic church, and the old Turkish castle (a piece of Islamic legacy) enjoying peaceful coexistence.

Jereghi said the premier show of the Film is scheduled for December 2005 in Chisinau following which it will travel to Russia, Israel, and the United States. Yacov Tikhman, on his part, emphasized that, given “sufficient technical support”, the Film might be first demonstrated in the very town of Zin’kov.

Many of the novel’s characters, he said, including his mother, are still alive and would be delighted to see the Film.

Answering a question about the Film’s budget, Jereghi described it as “satisfactory”, while Tikhman noted that “it should suffice to make a good movie…”

Cameraman – Anatoly Ivanov – who had recently arrived from the United States to attend the presentation, thanked Tikhman for “writing the story of Motle, the matchmaker by God.”

In his turn, president of Moldova’s Filmmakers’ Union, Mihail Sobor, described the Project as “ambitious, with good chances of success”.

The Project, he said, should pave way home for Moldovan talents that are currently forced (for economic reasons) to work overseas.

Sobor expressed hope that Creation of Love will set a good marketing example for the local film industry, stressing that “the private funds invested in the Project will make it impossible for the Film to gather dust ‘on the shelf’ but will turn it into a box office success.”

When asked about his acting aspirations for this movie, Tikhman (main producer) said he might appear in front of a camera “in a small, episodic role.”
