Chisinau, April 6 (Infotag). The International Women’s Club of Moldova (IWCM) – charitable organization uniting women to promote Moldova’s cultural values – has issued grants to ten local NGOs for the total value of $8,700; the money is to be expended on solving the problems facing Moldova’s youth, children and women.

The Club’s Chairperson Samantha Healy, head of the American Bar Association in Moldova (ABA/CEELI) told a news conference in Infotag that the money was raised at the latest Christmas charity fair in December.

IWCM grant supervisor Molly Lamphear said in January the Club received 26 funding applications from the local NGOs of which selected were 10; among the winners are organizations from Chisinau, Floresti, Cahul, Balti, and Ialoveni. From a geographical standpoint we have covered with grants all parts of the country, said Molly Lamphear.

Samantha Healy confirmed that IWCM has also been involved in raising funds from art projects such as the release of the Moldova-2005 photo art calendar and the annual art show The Night of Arts (arranged to take place this year on April 23 at the National Historical Museum) donating a quarter of its takings to charity.

Last year, the Club received donations from prominent sponsors including the Carlevana Winery, Asconi Corporation, the Nobil Club hotel, Efes Beer, Vitanta, Altavista Computers, the restaurants Alaverdî, New York, and Syimposium, the Nistru bakery, and the Dedeman hotel.
