01.07.05 CANDIDATE CHIRTOACA TO FOCUS ON SUBURBAN PROBLEMS

Chisinau, July 1 (Infotag). The Liberal Party candidate for Chisinau Mayor Mr. Dorin Chirtoaca believes that it is necessary to first and foremost focus on the crying problems faced by suburban communities [21 formerly independent villages included into the capital city’s jurisdiction several years ago].

Chirtoaca claimed at his news conference in Infotag today, “The state of things in those villages must be upgraded at least to the level existing in Chisinau proper. Currently, these villages have no even basic public utilities or elementary living conditions. Things there are much worse than even in Chisinau’s remotest, poorest districts. I talked to the villagers and learnt, for instance, that Chisinau Mayor has not shown up in some of those communities for more than a decade. That is not normal”.

Among first-priority tasks he presumes should be embarked on without delay are road repair, maintenance and building, water supply and sewage, and the problem of domestic waste. Candidate Chirtoaca believes that “a waste processing plant should be built for these localities. That’s the only possible way to resolve this acute problem”.

If he is elected Mayor, Dorin Chirtoaca will begin an active construction and repair of social and cultural objects “to thus create normal conditions for the young generation development”.

The candidate fingered at one more problem: farmers from suburbs are oftentimes not able to realize their produce in Chisinau: “They simply cannot find vacant places at Chisinau farm markets. When I am Mayor, I shall give one week to directors of all Chisinau markets to solve this problem. If they fail, I shall myself go to a market together with farmers at 5 o’clock in the morning, and shall find places for them”.

According to his plans, a separate development program will be worked out for each such suburban village to resolve the said problems. Means for this shall be found through optimization of the local budget’s expenditures, through negotiations with the central Government whom Dorin Chirtoaca is going to convince that the capital city should be permitted to leave for its vital needs a higher percent of means Chisinau itself earns.
