NGO LEADER ACCUSES MOLDOVAN AUTHORITIES OF GENOCIDE

22 octomber, 2014
NGO LEADER ACCUSES MOLDOVAN AUTHORITIES OF GENOCIDE Andrei Donica, Chairman of the Association for Struggle against Economic Crimes and Corruption, has accused the incumbent Moldovan leadership of genocide of the Moldovan people. He has already addressed to Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin with a corresponding inquiry on the issue.

Speaking at a news conference at Infotag, Donica demanded to bring Moldova’s chief state officials, who were in power from 2002 to date, to criminal responsibility for practicing genocide against their own nation.

In his words, with their inhuman policy the Moldovan rulers are committing a grave crime against 1.5 million citizens constituting such social groups as pensioners, invalids, unemployed, persons under age, sole mothers who are forced to exist on the brink of poverty, and such living conditions lead them to physical extinction.

“According to the Constitution, the government must take measures to provide each citizen with decent living standards. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the subsistence level in Moldova is currently standing at 1,452 lei a month. However, more than 90% Moldovan pensioners and invalids receive pensions and social allowances much smaller than this subsistence level”, stated Andrei Donica.

In his belief, the authorities’ policy with respect to pensioners, invalids, large families, unemployed and other vulnerable groups falls under the category of crimes called “genocide”.

“Our pro-European authorities subject these categories of citizens to a slow and agonizing death because the people have no money enough even for food and medical assistance, not to mention for paying utility bills, which in cold months are higher than the monthly pensions most citizens receive. The situation in this sphere is worse than at wartime. For mass-scale genocide, Article 135 in the Republic of Moldova Criminal Code stipulates punishments of 15 to 25 years in prison or a life sentence”, said Andrei Donica.

He promised that if the Prosecutor General does not react to his inquiry, he will lodge a claim with the European Court of Human Rights.

Pensioner Galina Chiriac said that an absolute majority of Moldovan pensioners eke out a miserable existence because many pensions are below even the subsistence level.

“How can one live in such conditions? Why should we come through such social tortures and humiliation at the decline of our years after we have worked hard through all our life? Aren’t our rulers feeling ashamed for the life we live? How come some persons grab billions, forcing the rest to live in poverty?” asked the pensioner who, after a 29-year length of service, receives a monthly pension of 1,120 lei [US$80].
