POLL REVEALS THAT TWO-THIRDS OF MOLDOVANS STAND FOR COUNTRY

More than two-thirds of Moldova citizens namely 68.4% presently stand for the country's accession to the European Union, as per the findings of a socio-political research for January 2021 carried out by the Date Inteligente (iData) sociological company and presented in Infotag on Wednesday.

Accession to the Eurasian Union is favored by 48.1% interviewed citizens, Moldova's unification with Romania - by 37.5%, and the country's joining NATO - by 28.2%.

Asked "With what country Moldova has the best external ties?", 46.1% citizens replied - with Romania, 24.3% -- with Russia, 6.9% -- Ukraine, 2.1% -- Germany, and 1.5% -- with the United States.

Date Inteligente polls are reflecting a positive trend with respect to the republic's development vector. Compare: in August 2020, only 13.7% respondents believed that Moldova was moving in a correct direction; in December, i.e. after the presidential election, -- already 27.4%, and in January 2021 - 41.3%.

Expert Veronica Ates of the Date Inteligente pointed out that the presidential election had played its positive role in that because before the election of a new president the Moldovan society was strained, and after it citizens moved aside political questions and began looking at things more optimistically.

The opinion poll was carried out by telephone on January 15 through 31 among 1264 people, including several residents of the Transnistrian region. The pollsters are saying the error should not be in the excess of В±2.7%.


...AND THAT BEST CANDIDATES FOR PREMIER ARE VORONIN, FILIP AND PLAHOTNIUC

The citizens, who took part in the Date Inteligente sociological research, offered opinions that the best candidates for prime minister would be the Ex-President of Moldova, Chairman of the Party of Communists Vladimir Voronin (22.8%), Democratic Party leader Pavel Filip (13.5%), and 12.6 respondents said - fugitive oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc.

Yet 11.6% respondents mentioned Platforma DA leader Andrei Nastase, 11.3% -- Ilan Sor, the Chairman of the namesake party, 9.4% -- Party of Socialists Chairman Igor Dodon, and 5.3% -- President Maia Sandu. And 6.7% respondents were uncertain.

According to Date Inteligente expert Veronica Ates, not a single of the 1264 interviewed citizens was able to tell the name of the candidate for premier proposed by the head of state - Natalia Gavrilita.

In the rating of the country's popular-most politicians, the top position is held by incumbent President Maia Sandu with 39.9%, followed by Igor Dodon - 31%, Ilan Sor - 8.3%, Vladimir Voronin - 5.4%, Our Party leader Renato Usatii - 4.7%, ex-Prime Minister Ion Chicu - 2.7%, and Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban - 1.7%.
