CITIZENS BELIEVE APPOINTMENT OF GOVERNMENT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ELECTIONS – OPINION POLL

Moldova citizens believe that at the present moment it is more important for the country to approve a new Government than to hold an early parliamentary election, as per the findings of the opinion research Vox Populi, which were presented at Infotag by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova on Monday.

The poll showed that an urgent government formation “for solving burning problems” is favored by 41.6% respondents, and the holding of an early parliamentary election is favored by 38.7%. However, 15.5% interviewed citizens were indifferent to both ideas, and 4.1% were uncertain.

27.2% said they believe that the best candidate for prime minister would be Platforma DA leader Andrei Nastase; 25.3% -- Mariana Durlesteanu (proposed by the parliamentary majority of the Party of Socialists and the Platform “For Moldova”); 15.5% -- Natalia Gavrilita (officially nominated by President Sandu); 7.5% -- Our Party leader and the mayor of Balti city Renato Usatii; 3.4% -- Ex-President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin, Chairman of the Party of Communists.  But 18.4% respondents were uncertain.

Association Chairman Victor Mocanu believes that the citizens mentioned Andrei Nastase among the best candidates for premier because they said “he is one of the main fighters for democratization of Moldova and its liberation from oligarchic captivity”. Mocan said that many respondents regard Natalia Gavrilita, too, “a good professional able to form a Cabinet of Ministers”, but she has been “discredited with her first unhappy attempt in the Parliament”, where she was voted down.

The opinion poll was carried out on February 12-20. It covered 1l91 people eligible to vote, residing in 89 various-type localities across the republic, except the Transnistrian region. The pollsters are saying the error should not be in the excess of ±3%.
