OPINION POLL REVEALS THAT MOST MOLDOVANS BELIEVE VOTES ARE OFTEN BOUGHT HERE

A majority of Moldova citizens believe that the practice of bribing voters or buying votes is quite customary in this republic, as per the findings of the opinion research Vox Populi for May-June 2021 that were presented at Infotag by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova today.

According to the research, 33.5% respondents believe that this practice is “broadly used” in Moldova, 48.1% -- that it is “used” here, and only 13.3% do not believe in this.

33.1% respondents think that ballots after voting are counted incorrectly, 37.4% think differently, and 29.5% were unsure.

Asked if elections permit to replace those power representatives who do not fulfill their election pledges, 44.2% interviewed citizens replied no, 33.1% believe in this “only partly”, and 17.1% said yes.

According to the poll, if the much-spoken early parliamentary election were held next Sunday, Maia Sandu’s Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) would poll 29.1%, the voting bloc of Communists and Socialists – 28.8%, the Sor Party – 5.8%.

All the rest contestants would not be able to clear the 5% election threshold. Namely, the Renato Usatii voting bloc would poll only 3.8%, Platforma DA – 3.5%, the Democratic Party – 1.8%. However, as many as 20.2% respondents were unsure about their political preferences, so far, or said they would not go to the polls.

According to the poll, on July 11 voter turnout may be quite high. Namely 68.2% respondents stated they would definitely go to the polls, 12.9% -- would go most probably, and 16.8% would not go – most probably or definitely.

The opinion was carried out on May 24 through June 5. It covered 1179 people eligible to vote, residing in 83 various-type localities across the republic. The pollsters are saying the error should not be in the excess of ±3%.
