17.01.2007 FIRST NEWSPAPER FOR CONSUMERS COMES OUT IN MOLDOVA

Chisinau, January 17 (Infotag). Moldova’s first newspaper on the protection of consumer rights and related issues, Pro Consumator, has been just launched in this republic. comes out in Moldova. Its presentation was organized in Infotag today by the National Council of Consumer Rights Organisations of Moldova.

The Chairman of the League for Consumer Right Protection, Roman Mihaies, said at the ceremony the Council had been established in late-2006 by three specialized organizations, and Pro Consummator is now published by them.

“We are looking for grants to underpin our publication, but for the time being, however, the paper is run on private means”, he said.

Pro Consumator is a fortnightly black-and-white edition having 10 pages and is issued in Romanian and Russian. Its circulation is 3 thousands of copies, of which 2 thousand are solved for 2 lei a copy, and rest is distributed free of charge.

Chair of the Moldovan Center of Consumer Right Protection Denis Starus said such newspapers are quite popular all over the world.

“We would like Pro Consummator to be an information guide for all consumers. The paper will be supplying them with various useful information to better know their rights. We stand ready to answer readers’ questions, consult and even help people whose rights were violated”, Starus said.

There are 30 non-governmental organizations in Moldova whose names contain the word ‘consummator’, but only a quarter of them are involved in really active work.
