“The Democratic Party of Moldova (DP) turned, a long time ago, from a political formation into a political grouping that is acting according to unlawful schemes and that is closely associated with the criminal underworld, using its resources and taking over its experience,” said Gagauzia Bashkan Mikhail Formuzal at a news conference today.   

He also said that he had already submitted to the Moldovan Prosecutor General’s Office some evidences that prove the close relations between some high-ranking authorities of the autonomy and the criminal world, as well as their actions undertaken to remove the political challengers and their opponents, such as public officials from the power structures, including the prosecutors of the Gagauz autonomy.   

“The DP members are pursuing one main goal – to grab the power in the region, by suppressing the dissent, the public opinion and the lawfully-elected authorities of Gagauzia,” he said.

Among the coordinators of these activities, he named the Speaker of the Gagauzia Popular Assembly (GPA) [autonomy’s legislature] Dmitry Constantinov and the former head of the Vulcanesti raion, Sergey Cernev.    

“Those who became members of the Democratic Party are relieved of all their sins. This is like an indulgence for committing unlawful and criminal deeds,” he said.

He also thinks that the current situation and the instability caused in the region by the Democratic Party are seriously affecting the local population, which started to show its indignation about this. At the same time, this has led to the suspension of some humanitarian projects for Gagauzia.

At the same time, the Bashkan stressed that the resistance to the criminal activities of the Democratic Party is not a political struggle, but an attempt to ensure stability in Gagauz Autonomy and in the Republic of Moldova.    

“The Democratic Party is not a political force, but an organized political grouping that poses real danger to the existence of the country and to each citizen in particular. This cancerous tumor that has affected the Moldovan state, should be removed from the political arena of the country as soon as possible,” the Bashkan concluded.
