CALM ASKS RULING MAJORITY TO PAY ATTENTION TO POWER DECENTRALIZATION

The Congress of Local Authorities from Moldova (CALM) called pro-European parties to address the problems of local administrations by means of power decentralization, says the CALM leadership’s statement, made public at the Tuesday’s news conference at Infotag.

Its Chairperson Tatiana Badan said that the recent parliamentary elections have demonstrated the necessity of cardinal changes in power priorities.

“Lack of political will, delay in realization of reforms in the field of decentralization of economic and social development and in combating corruption are inadmissible”. The time has come to understand that in condition of keeping current political system, managed by narrow groups, no reform will be completed and all of them will remain just on the paper”, considers she.

According to the CALM Chairperson, it is necessary to establish the post of Deputy Premier for reform in decentralization, while in the Parliament to create a special commission for decentralization and consolidation of local autonomy.

Executive Director of the organization Viorel Furdui noted that the delay in negotiations on creation of coalition is negatively affecting the population.

“People are concerned. We hope that the authorities will take action, because for several recent years we were standing pat. Local authorities hope that besides new projects, the Government will not forget about reforms, started earlier, and will analyze problems, which hinder their implementation”, said he.

Cimislia town mayor Gheorghe Raileanu maintains that in conditions, when the country needs stability and favorable socio-economical environment, the new authorities should show pragmatism and political maturity.

“Local authorities’ problems lay in corruption and political pressure, exerted by party leaders from the Center, We want to show that we are ready to be faithful allies to authorities, but only if there are no people with tarnished reputation or suspected of corruption acts”, said he.

Raileanu noted that such politicians are LDPM Chairman Vlad Filat and DP Deputy Chairman Vlad Plahotniuc.

“It is not about their dismissal from the political life, but from the necessity to get them away from leading positions. People know that these politicians are involved in suspicious deals, thus they refuse to support their parties”, maintains the Cimislia governor.
