ASSOCIATION OF THE DEAF TO ORGANIZE MOTOR RALLY

 The Association of the Deaf of Moldova, jointly with the INFONET Alliance of Access to Information and Training Community Centers, is going to organize a motor rally on September 23-24 within the International Week of the Deaf.

The Association Chairman Ruslan Lopatiuc said at the Tuesday’s press conference at Infotag that it is the first time such an event is being organized, but already more than 80 motorists with hearing impairments from all the country’s raions, including from Transnistria, expressed their intention to participate in it.

“By means of this action, we want to draw the society’s attention to problems of people with hearing impairments and demonstrate that such drivers are no worse than others”, he explained.

The motor run will be conducted on 5 routes with the finish in the Chisinau main square. During the rally, motorists will conduct information actions in large localities, as well as will meet with mayors.

On September 21, the film “Arrivederci” by Valeriu Jereghi will be screened with sign language interpretation in the Association’s cultural center. Also, a chess tournament will be organized with participation of Moldovan Olympic team member Veaceslav Slovineanu.

INFONET Director Victor Coroli said that an online discussion will be conducted on the website www.deca.md on the topic “Hearing Impairments: Medical Perspectives”. Anyone can talk with head of the Republican Institute of Audiology Angelina Cheaburu, as well as with psychologist Cornelia Bodorina. Guests will discuss the problem of teaching children with hearing impairments and their integration in the society.

Deputy Chairwoman of the Association Natalia Babici said that a flash mob under the slogan #noisuntem [#WeAre] will be conducted in the Chisinau main square on September 24, in which over 200 death people will participate.

She said that local administration authorities have to compile lists of people with hearing impairment, as it is easier to provide assistance, distribute financing, when it is known where these people live.

In the concluding day, the Association will conduct an Open Day Door, within which an exhibition of art works, manufactured by people with hearing impairments, will be held, as well as a concert with participation of collectives from Moldova and Ukraine.

Infotag’s dossier:  The International Week of the Deaf is held in the last week of September and is finished by the Day of the Deaf on Sunday. It was established in 1951 to mark the creation of the World Federation of the Deaf.
